Workshop Atlantic Connections

Tipo: Workshop

Local: Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto

Data: 7 outubro 2019 8 outubro 2019

The Atlantic world was shaped by the various interactions between Europeans and since the late middle age between those and transatlantic indigenous societies. The workshop will therefore focus on cultural exchanges and knowledge transfers across the Atlantic from the fifthteenth to the twentienth century.

The papers will examine the depictions of indigenous cultures in European art and literature, the possession of European and Asian art objects and material goods in colonial households, the circulation of urban models, the role of transatlantic networks for the circulation of enlightenment ideas and  the waves of European migration and settlements in colonial and post colonial Latin America.

The workshop, a joint venture of the CITCEM/ FLUP and the University of Greifswald, will take place at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto, on October, 7 to October 8.
